The Susan .Alterman Jewish
Community Center Leadership Awards
and the President's Awards will be pre-
sented at the Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan Detroit's annu-
al meeting June 21.
The 7:30 p.m. meeting will be pre-
ceded at 7 p.m. by a dessert reception
in Handleman Hall at the JCC in West
Bloomfield.
Alterman Award recipients are Marc
Kahn and William Eisenberg. Kahn is a
member of the JCC Board of
Directors, co-chairs the JCC's budget
and finance committee and serves on
the Health Club, nominating, 75th
anniversary and membership commit-
tees.
Eisenberg has been a member of the
JCC since 1976 and is active on the
committee level and as a member of
the board. He is a member of the exec-
utive committee, chairs the building
and grounds committee, co-chairs the
security committee and serves on the
renovation and Applebaum Campus
committees.
The Alterman Award was created in
memory of Susan Alterman by her hus-
band, Irwin, and her son, Owen. Mrs.
Alterman was an active member of the
Jewish Center Health Club for more
than 25 years, served on the JCC Board
of Directors and was a vice president of
the agency. She also was active in other
community organizations, including
the National Council of Jewish
Women, Orchards Children's Services,
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit and Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Herman Frankel and Steven
Friedman have been selected to receive
the JCC President's Award. Established
by President Lawrence Wolfe, the
awards recognize volunteers "for their
outstanding leadership and commit-
ment, and honor those whose involve-
ment has enhanced a Center program
benefiting the entire community."
Frankel was responsible for the
design and construction of the Marion
and David Handleman Hall and
Auditorium and the entry lobby at the
JCC's Kahn Building. A former JCC
board member, Frankel also was respon-
sible for the overall design and construc-
tion of the total JCC renovations.
Friedman is a member of the JCC
board and the leading force behind the
concept and creation of the InLine
Hockey Center, in the Edward and
Shirley Rosenberg Recreation Complex
at the Kahn Building. He helped in the
