"He was a very kind and generous man, and very connected with people," said Barbara Gordon, his daughter. "He had an endless capacity to be open to people, everyone became part ...Ellis family. He was often asked to do spe- cial projects or be on committees for Temple Israel." Mr. Tobais was a certified public accountant and partner in Tobias, Tobias, Vandeputte and Skulsky. Two years ago, Mr. Tobias' family gathered in Mexico to honor his 80th birthday. "He didn't want a party, he just wanted his family with him — and 36 went," said Mrs. Gordon. "He sel- dom missed an event that any of his grandchildren were in. Whether it was sports or plays or recitals, he tried to get to everything." Ruth, his wife of 15 years, said he was a man of integrity and ethics. "Right was right, but he was tolerant of other people's failures," she said. "He was not judgmental. He liked every- body — he never saw anything bad in anybody. Consequently he brought out the best in other people. He was just a loving, wonderful human being." It was a second marriage for both of them. "We were both widowed, and a mutual friend made sure that our two lives met," she said.
