gory of children's literature in
the Detroit Women Writers
writing competition. Her entry
was titled "Swimming."

Max Olender of West
Bloomfield, a student at Detroit
Country Day School in Beverly
Hills, claimed the highest score
among second-graders in the
four-state region in the 2001
Continental Math League
Contest.

Stanford and Iris Ovshinsky of
Bloomfield Hills, founders of
Energy Conversions Devices
Inc. in Troy, will receive the
Corporate Citizenship Award
for their spirit of volunteerism,
service and commitment to
improving the quality of life in
the community. The award is
presented by Wayne State
University to honor business
leaders.

Alyssa Martina of Huntington
Woods was honored at the State
Capitol in Lansing as part of
Women's Entrepreneurial Day.
Martina is founder of Metro
Parent Publishing Group and is
the creator and publisher of sev-
eral magazines in southeast
Michigan and Canada targeted
ar parents and families. Before
becoming a publisher, Martina
started a legal clinic for women
called Legal Alternatives for
Women, providing legal assis-
tance to victims of domestic
violence.

Sheryl Krohner of Oak Park
was honored as the outstanding
Major of the Year-Exercise
Science from Wayne Stare
University by the National
Association for Sport and
Physical Education. During her
college years, Krohner was
involved in research of fitness
levels in young athletes, person-
al training of individuals and
development and implementa-
tion of fitness programs for
girls
