One of Dante's
recipes is from his
dad, Sam ... who
originated his own
preparation of the
delicious bracciolini
meat rollup ... with bread crumbs, gar-
lic and a burgundy mushroom sauce.
His mother, Alva, was the original
cook for Vannelli's back in 1929 ...
and came up with cici beans in salad
when the restaurant first opened.
All the pastries at La Villa are made
on the premises ... One of them,
Zuccotti, is a pound cake soaked in
liqueurs, with Belgian chocolate cher-
ries and whipped cream on top ... then
dusted with more chocolate ... Also a
deliciously liqueur-soaked Tiramisu.
Among the fine waitstaff at La Villa,
server John Paul, among those who
helped open the spot ... is noted from
stints at Tweeney's, the Lark and Pike
Street ... Atop the green linen table-
cloths with white napkins, John and
others place a bread basket that also
includes matzah year-round.
La Villa's wine list is an extensive
one ... filled with a choice selection of
vino by the bottle and glass.
That the apple doesn't fall far from
the tree is most apropos in the case of
Dante Vannelli ... He follows in very
good footsteps ... Dante's dad, Sam,
and mom, Alva, were terrific cooks.
La Villa has made many friends
because of its fine food and casual
atmosphere ... It is a great stopover
post en route to the music concerts
out that way ... and a most pleasant
ride for an enjoyable dinner.
A DATE THAT has had a lot of
readers asking about is finally sched-
uled ... It is the second all-you-can-eat
glatt kosher Chinese buffet by caterer
Jeffrey Rosenberg.
The time is Wednesday, June 13, 6-
8 p.m., at Adat Shalom Synagogue,
Middlebelt between 13 Mile and
Northwestern ... Last November,
about 625 attended the many-sta-
tioned and lavish buffet ... first of its
kind in Michigan.
Prices will be the same as was the orig-
inal ... $18 adults, and $10 under 12 ...
Children three and under will be free.
THREE 1926 GRADUATES of
Northern High haven't been able to
find any of the other 330 cap-and-
gowners in their class ... so will have a
mini-reunion in June or July.
Barristers Albert Silber, Gabriel
Alexander and former Professor
Benjamin "Bib" Brown ... With their
