Question of the Week: Can you name the physicist who, at 37, won the 1922 Nobel Prize — a remarkable feat at the time, since virtually none of the awards were given to young men? •tuolu alp Jo a.m1Dnias alp uo )pom sTtl ioJ azpid pcioN uom aEj • atpuJ Qiraua2 E puu latpoui tlsrnna f E Jo UOS Q141 sum ‘ua2utitiadoD Jo QAIJEU E ‘itiog •(Z96I - S88I) -111°q sIDN eivisuv s grow- Start Finish WITH A NAME CHANGE, , JCC att.411, 1111111111111MMOI Crestwood Drive Timherwood Pine Woodland Tree Court aterway REINTRODUCTION OF A WALK Ridgewood Drive AND THE COMBINATION OF A Drakeshire lane 0 TEMPLE ISRAEL MW Pond Court SUMMER CULTURE SHUK, THIS Silver • 0 0 SUNDAY'S HAPPENING SEEKS 0.1,w,0041, >•• O cc CON MUNITYWIDE SUPPORT. Greenbrier Drive - JILL DAVIDSON SKLAR Special to the Apple Tree 0 n Sunday, May 20, metro Detroiters won't need an El Al plane ticket, nor will they have to convert their cur- rency to shekels to enjoy a slice of Israel. All they need is to venture to the Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Jewish Community Campus, Maple and Drake, West Bloomfield. That is because the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, along with the Jewish News, the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit, the Michigan/Israel Connection, the Jewish Experiences for Families (JEFF) and others, are co- sponsoring JerusaleMania, a six-hour event featuring a solidarity walk and an Israel celebration fair. While the name is new, the happening is not. In fact, it is a melding of two events that have gone on sepa- rately for at least the last 20 years. IsraelFest, featuring the Solidarity March for Israel and family-oriented activities, this year joins the JCC's Culture Shuk,.a gathering that featured an Israeli open market-type atmosphere. JerusaleMania co-chair Dr. Irvin Kappy said the event is perhaps more important this year, when bombs are exploding and tensions are rising in Israel, than in past years, when there was peace in the country. The walk, missing from last year's event, held in Oak Park, Piccadilly Grcle Cromwel Cromwell Court over Court will return to this year's JerusaleMania for that reason. "I think there will be great interest in the event this year. Israel is certainly besieged from all sides and can use our support during this crisis," Kappy said. "We often take Israel for granted, and this [event] is a reason to celebrate. The walk will show our solidarity and sup- port for Israel and our hope for peace in the region." As with past years, when Israel experienced height- ened problems with its neighbors, extra security meas- ures have been taken to assure the safety of participants, Kappy said. In addition to West Bloomfield Police presence, arrangements have been made with the local Arab and Chaldean communities to assure a peaceful event, he added. "We have been in close contact with the Arab and Chaldean leaders and we have good neighborly rela- tions with the rest of the community," Kappy said.
