leadership and the professional staff,"
Aronson said. "If Mark hadn't been
here, this would have been an impossi-
ble thing to do. It's really as simple as
that."
Davidoff said he is very excited
about the added position, and thinks
Aronson's new role "plays to all our
strengths."
"What we learned from the
Millennium Campaign is that there is
a direct relationship between the
amount of time that we free up Bob
for major gift development and the
degree of our success," he said. "This
is our attempt to position him to
spend as much as is available to major
gift development and strategic vision-
ing.
It's also about positioning the
Federation for the future — about
moving our strong chess pieces on the
right part of the board. It's putting a
number of key professionals in key
positions where their strengths natu-
rally lie, and it's clearly in our best
interests."
Federation also is restructuring its
departments to become more stream-
lined. Announcements are expected
soon.
Aronson said the response of
Federation leadership, by and large, to
his change in position has been posi-
tive.
"I think there are naturally concerns
as to what effect this will have on the
Federation
will I be torn in too
many directions, and is this in the best
interest of the community," he said.
"They are supporting the decision and
are hoping for the best."
Penny Blumenstein, Federation pres-
ident, took a hopeful tone.
"We don't want to lose Bob. He's
such an important part of our
Federation, and as everybody knows,
he's had many opportunities to go lots
of other places," she said. "We look at
this as something really beneficial for
us. We get to keep him within our
family, and we have to look at this as a
step forward, a solution at this time
for keeping Bob and offering him the
opportunity to explore and develop
other sources of fundraising efforts
within the Jewish world.
"There's a comfort level knowing
that your executive here is full-time.
By the same token, sometimes you
need to be able to allow someone to
open other doors for themselves," she
said. "But I think that in realigning
the responsibilities, we will be as
strong as we ever were. ❑
