The dining room was a chal-
lenge for Kommel since she
could neither switch the
wallpaper nor change the
paint. She chose the dining
room table, chairs and buffet
by Ban from the Marie-
Howard Interiors Showroom
in the Michigan Design
Center (MDC). "I tried to
show a table that belonged
in the room. It's casual but
dressy," said Kommel.
Kommel chose an Asmara
rug Aubusson-style from
The Ghiordes Knot at the
MDC to complement the
French Country look. "It
plays beautifully against the
wallpaper." The chandelier,
for which Kommel added
the shades, is from Lighting
Concepts in the MDC. The
oil painting is from the
Danielle Peleg Gallery in
West Bloomfield.
T
he Showhouse, built in 1839 by
the Vaughan famil y , is part of the
Vaughan-Vernor estate located in
Bloomfield Hills. The Vernor
family, of the ginger ale scions, resided in the
home between 1924 and 1941. The property
includes four lush acres, a spacious carriage
house and an in-ground pool.
Local designers transformed 30 distinct
spaces into a showplace for area visitors.
Proceeds from the tour benefit the Detroit
Historical Society, a group committed to pre-
serving the Detroit Historical Museums and
the history that shaped Detroit.
