Seth Jacobson of Southfield, a 1999
graduate of Yeshivat Akiva, landed a
role in Yeshiva University's spring
production of Mister Roberts in New
York. Parents are Hedy and Bruce
Jacobson.
Joshua Rubin is a seventh-grader at
Abbott Middle School in West
Bloomfield. His sci-
ence project,
"Electrical Output
of Wind Turbines,"
was one of several
selected to repre-
sent his school in
the 44th annual
Science and
Engineering Fair of
Joshua Rubin
Metropolitan
Detroit. His project
received the following awards:
• first place in the Junior Division
• first place in the Detroit Edison's
Professional Award judging
• Professional Award judges' choice.
He has been accepted to the
Center for Talent Development at
Northwestern University in
Evanston, Ill., for study this sum-
mer. Josh is the son of Ellen Kotler
and Don Rubin.

Lesley Serri of West Bloomfield
entered five pieces in the photo con-
test and exhibition, "Through Our
Eyes," in honor of Women's History
Month at Oakland Community
College. She received a first place
and a third place.
Elyse Wiseman of Farmington Hills
and a student at
West Bloomfield
High School was
nominated for a
national award in
history and govern-
ment through the
United States
Achievement
Academy. Last year, Elyse Wiseman
Wiseman was pub-
lished in Who Who Among High
School Students and this year she
became a member of the National
Honor Society.
Rick Goren of Ann Arbor, former
director of development at Fresh Air
Society/Tamarack Camps, became
an assistant director for major and
planned gifts for the University of
Michigan Health System, which
includes the University of Michigan
Hospital Medical School.
Harvey Goldstein of the
Farmington public schools has been
selected by the National Art
Association to receive the National
Elementary Art Educator of the Year
award.
Student musicians, singers and
dancers will travel to Europe this
summer as members of Blue Lake
Fine Arts Camp's international
exchange program. Two of the par-
ticipants are Jennifer Ruben, 10th-
grader at Okemos High School and
Emma Lockwood, 10th-grader at
Berkley High School. Both girls sing
soprano in the choir.
Miriam Helene Marton of Ann
Arbor received a juris doctor from
Michigan State University-Detroit
College of law at the winter 2000
graduation. Marton earned an
undergraduate degree from Oakland
University and University of
Michigan.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit
and Detroit Rotary Club honored
senior volunteers. Among those rec-
ognized were Sylvia Foxman of
Jewish Apartments and Services in
Oak Park, Dorothy Goldberg of
Oak Park Seniors 50 Up Club in
Oak Park and Edward Schwartz of
Jewish Home and Aging Services in
West Bloomfield.
Stacy Furgang of West Bloomfield is
a May graduate of the University of
Illinois-Urbana/Champaign. She has
been awarded the Bronze Plaque, an
honor reserved for the top 3 percent
of graduating seniors at the universi-
ty. In addition, she has been accept-
ed to the schools of veterinary medi-
cine at the University of Illinois and
Michigan State University.
Andi Golding, former West
Bloomfield High School graduate,
will have the honor of being one of
three speakers for her college's com-
mencement on May 5 from
Michigan State University. She will
receive a degree in merchandising
management from the College of
Human Ecology. She is the daughter
of Rita and Howard Golding.
