Night Sight: If you would enjoy a
quiet walk through Jerusalem in the
wee hours, be sure to visit the
Jerusalem Post Internet Edition's
charming "Old City of Jerusalem by
Night" page. Click on
www.jpost.com to get there.
The reporters write, "We went there
when most people are asleep, when
there is no dispute, when the city can
relax and is preparing for another
busy day.

Judah Tuoro: The builder and name-

sake of the oldest synagogue in the
United States also sent a great deal of
money to help fund housing projects
for new Jewish immigrants to
Jerusalem.

Way To Grow: Last year, Israel saw its
greatest growth ever $5.5 billion, for a
total of $28.3 billion net in com-
modities export.
This marks a 24 percent growth
from 1999 and the highest in a
decade, according to the Israeli Export
Institute. The most popular items for
export were high-tech industries
(notably electronics), which totaled
$9.2 billion, followed by diamonds.
While the United States continues to
be a leading buyer of Israeli goods,
Japan and Asian countries increased by
17 percent the amount they purchased
from the state. Sumitomo Corp. of
Japan also recently invested an undis-
closed sum in CheckM8, an Israeli
startup company founded last year that
works to improve Internet advertising
and e-commerce. This is believed to be
the first time Sumitomo has invested to
such a degree in a new Israeli firm.
CheckM8 will be launched next month.

Give Them A Hand: Israel's largest
volunteer organization is Yad Sarah,
which, at no cost, lends medical equip-
ment to anyone.
Yad Sarah was founded by Rabbi
Uri Lupoliansky, who named the
organization after his grandmother,
who died in the Holocaust. While
Rabbi Lupoliansky is a leading figure
in the haredi, or right-wing Orthodox
community, Yad Sarah comprises vol-
unteers from every segment of the
country's population, while the more
than 200,000 1.vho benefit each year
from its services also include Jews and
gentiles, religious and non-religious.
For information, contact Yad Sarah, 1
