At Paramount Bank, we know our customers by name, not just by account number. In today's banking world, this kind of service causes us to stick out. But we don't mind. Not when it's causing so many people like you to invest their money with us. 0 800.421 •BANK Personal Checking & Savings Charts , z 0 4 4 2,50% 4.00% 5.00% 5.00% 5.00% 5.25% 1.00% 1.00% 2.03% 4.35% 3.65% 4.70% V 0 V .25% 1.00% 1.98% 3.75% 3.75% 3.50% i z a = N 2 Interest Checking $100 Passbook $2,500 Money Market 6 Month CD 12 Month CD 24 Month CD BANK ONE you get a box of diapers. There's no primer for later," she says. "We hope to be a 'tool box' of sorts, for parents." Lisa Berman, a West Bloomfield mother of two, took Serlin and Kaplan's class when her younger daughter was still in preschool. "Nancy and Gerry were so enthusi- astic, and I feel they were a catalyst for getting me involved in becoming a better parent," Berman says. "The dis- cussions were really well thought out, and the handouts were great. Dr. Kaplan says one reason very bright students — and adults — may underachieve is that when everyone tells you how smart you are, anything less than perfection may fall short of personal expectations. "Not trying is a way to not fail or lose self-esteem," he says. Kaplan and Serlin both have mas- ter's degrees in education; she from the University of Michigan, he from Wayne State University. They base their curriculum on combined profes- sional training, their personal careers and considerable experience as par- ents. "We are each parents of two inde- pendent, mature adult children," Serlin says. "And we work so well together, we sometimes finish each other's sentences!" Serlin, a member of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, was trained to support the emotional needs of the gifted by Dr. James Webb, a published author and well-known parenting specialist. She has been the "Science Lady" in Temple Israel's preschool for 20 years. Kaplan, a guidance counselor at Dunckel Middle School in Farmington Hills, also has a private counseling practice in Birmingham. He has worked in public education since 1969. He served on the summer institute teaching staff of his personal mentor, Dr. Sylvia Rimm, an international parenting expert. His family belongs to Temple Israel. Both instructors say issues of con- cern to parents motivate their best coursework. "Parents are really pretty astute about their children's abilities, difficul- ties and special challenges," Dr. Kaplan says. "That makes our work more enjoyable." Paramount customers not only enjoy free checking, but they also collect a consis- tently higher rate of interest on their checking balances than any other bank in southeastern Michigan. 1.00% 1.00% 1.00% 4.20% 4.15% 4.20% tAPY'S as of April 16,2001, and are subject to change without notice *Service Not Available PARAMOUNT FDIC BANK Branches • Birmingham 248.723.4800 • Farmington Hills 248.538.7600 You've never seen a bank like this!
