he story of Passover recounts how the
Israelites slaved for Pharaoh in Egypt,
building bricks for his great pyramids.
Congregation Beth Shalom's pre-
school students in Oak Park are not quite big
enough to have an authentic brick-building
experience. Instead, they spent a sunny morning
on April 4 making their own child-sized bricks.
Some children made bricks of sand; others of
clay.
In a few weeks, said teacher Rena Amit, they
will release the bricks from their molds and see
which ones held up better.
In the mean-
time, they gained
more respect for
our long-ago
ancestors, who
made thousands
of those bricks in
even hotter
with-
weather
out a hot bath
and a nap after-
