"When I was 6 years old, a friend of my parents gave me
a puppet," said Linn, who now lives in Brookline, Mass. "I
was fascinated by the idea of making this creature talk."
At age 11, Linn began ventriloquism lessons with Detroit
television personality Jerry Whitman. Before long, she and
her hand puppets were appearing on local television.
Linn is one of four special guests this month as
PuppetART/Detroit Puppet Theater celebrates National
Puppetry Month. She'll be here Saturday, April 14, with her
interactive show, Will the Real Audrey Duck Please Stand Up?.
On Saturday, April 21, PuppetART presents another
native Detroiter, Sarah Marwil Lamstein, now of Newton,
Mass. Her show, Funny Bone Tales, includes skits from chil-
dren's literature and traditional puppet lore.
Linn, who left college to become a performer, eventually
earned a doctorate in counseling psychology from the
Harvard Graduate School of Education. Now an instructor at
Harvard Medical School, her April 14 seminar focuses on her
specialty — puppet therapy.
Her evolution from college dropout to Ed.D. began when
