Now is the time
to have the time
of your life...

This year, 51 participants (including 16
staff) from Michigan and 18 from
Federation's Partnership 2000 region in
Israel's Central Galilee will make the trip.
Mon;* Milberger of West Bloomfield
and Alexander Kuhn of Southfield are
two local Holocaust survivors who, with
their families, will personalize the experi-
ence for all involved.
• The March began in 1988 when
1,500 people, 200 from the United
States, participated. Since then, more
than 25,000 students have made the
two-week trip.
Gene Greenzweig, MOIL Western
Hemisphere chairman, said Detroit's
Federation was among the first to make a
conscious choice to bring together the
different streams of Judaism and is one of
few Federations that subsidize the trip.
`All the federations sponsor the
march," he said. "As far as putting signif-
icant dollars in, Detroit is one of the
leaders.
What happened after the last
Federation-subsidized March in 1999
was notable, said Robert Aronson,
Federation CEO.
"You had Orthodox kids attending
services at Temple Israel, you had kids
from Reform or Conservative homes
spending Shabbat in Oak Park and
Southfield," he said. "That, to us, is
tremendously important in terms of
building a total community for the
future.
Rachel Kohn, 16, of West Bloomfield
said important lessons can be learned
from everyone.
"Orthodox, Conservative and
Reform kids should get used to inter-
acting with each other, because soon
we'll be the adults making all the big
decisions, and developing understand-
ing and tolerance is a good thing to
start now before we become stubborn
adults," said Kohn, affiliated with Bais
Chabad of West Bloomfield.
"I think that Poland will bring us all
closer together because it will teach us
how important it is for all Jews to stick
together and look out for one another.
When push comes to shove, we're all in
the same boat. - El
