T

he Sisterhood of Adat
Shalom knows how to
celebrate the Jewish
holidays in style, and
they are sharing their secrets with
the rest of the community. Last
November, the Sisterhood hosted a
one-day workshop "Hiddur
Mitzvah" with lectures, demonstra-
tions and uniquely designed table
settings.
Hiddur Mitzvah is performing
mitzvot with grace, beauty and pay-
ing attention to details. "Every
time you perform a mitzvot, it
should be done in an aesthetically
pleasing way," explains Rabbi
Herbert Yoskowitz of Adat Shalom.

Yoskowitz gives the examples of
dressing nicely for Shabbat, or pick-
ing an unblemished etrog for
Sukkot.
"We wanted to show that you
can decorate a beautiful table for
the holidays and create a program
that enhances spirituality and
Jewish awareness," said Carol
Weintraub Fogel, Sisterhood presi-
dent. Fogel stressed the educa-
tional facet of this event and the
program rationale, which hopes to
perpetuate traditional Judaism in
the home, synagogue and commu-
nity.
Event chairman Shula Fleisher
helped organize the event with

exhibit coordinator Hannah
Monique Ulrych. Each exhibitor
designed a table for a specific
Jewish holiday. The exhibitors and
holidays included Toby Dobkin,
Simchat Torah; Toby Dobkin and
daughter Hannah Monique Ulrych,
Sheva Brochot for Jewish wedding
celebrations; Hannah Monique
Ulrych, Purim and Shavout;
Charlotte Edelheit, Rosh
Hashanah; Dayna Glanz, Sukkot;
Susie Graham, Chanukah; Nori
Klar, Chanukah; Beverly Liss,
Passover; Florine Mark-Ross,
Shabbat; Amy Olender, Chanukah;
Sisterhood, Yom Kippur; Beth
Strear, Tu b'Shevat; Rachel

Yoskowitz, Passover, and Barbara
Zack, Sukkot.
This innovative program, which
will be an annual event, strives to
enhance Jewish holiday celebra-
tions, create new family rituals,
present artistic entertaining ideas,
and become an opportunity for
community outreach.
The second annual "Hiddur
Mitzvah" will include a patron event
on August 27 and an event day on
August 28. The program is open to the
public. For more information, call the
Sisterhood of Adat Shalom at
(248) 851-5100.
