NCJW Delegates Attend Forum

Nineteen delegates from the Greater
Detroit section of the National
Council of Jewish Women previewed
the newly established Women and
Gender Studies degree program at
Tel Aviv University during a national
institute in Washington, D.C., on
March 10-14.
Maintaining their tradition of
advocacy, NCJW members pledged
to pursue Congressional legislation
favoring improved child care, revok-
ing the global gag rule and challeng-
ing charitable choice. They visited
the offices of Michigan Sens. Debbie
Stabenow and Carl Levin and Reps.
Joe Knollenberg and Sander Levin to
express their commitment to these
issues.
During the institute, NCJW hon-
ored Supreme Court Justice Ruth
Bader Ginsburg and U.S. Sen.

Christopher Dodd, D-Conn.
National Public Radio's Supreme
Court correspondent Nina
Totenberg; Rabbi David Saperstein,
director, Religious Action Center of
Reform Judaism; and Nancy Amidei,
director, Civic Engagement Project,
delivered addresses.
The Greater Detroit section dele-
gation included section president
Linda Bloom; Carol Sue Coden,
Ann Zousmer and Judith
Rosenberg, national board members;
Myrna Edgar and Marta Rosenthal,
national commissioners; Edie
Broida, Fern Ettinger, Florence
Herrmann, Terran Leemis, Randie
Levin, Marian Littman, Mindy
Nathan, Bedonna Perish, Deane
Safir, Libby Sherbin, Joyce Siegel,
Beverly Stone and Wendy
Wagenheim.

Detroiters participate at national institute.

Congregation Shir Tikvah Hosts
Isaac Mayer Wise Shabbat

Annually, the Jewish Reform congre-
gations in the Detroit area hold a
joint service, the Isaac Meyer Wise
Shabbat, the Friday night during the
eight days of Passover.
This year's service, open to the
public, will be held 7:45 p.m. April
13, at Congregation Shir Tikvah,
3900, Northfield Parkway, Troy.
One added element for the event
will be an ensemble comprised of

Shir Tikvah members who will assist
in the service: Art Bayer and Brian
Granader on drums, Joel Stern on
flute, Edna Garte on mandolin,
Noemi Schaffa on cello, Gary Rimar
on piano and Lisa Soble-Siegman
and Josh Cohen on guitar.
After the service, there will be an
Oneg Shabbat. For information, call
