Southfield-based Hospice of Michigan

will present "Taking the Fear Out of
Hospice: A Jewish Perspective" 7:15
p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue.
Arthur M. Horwitz, owner and pub-
lisher of the Jewish News, will moder-
ate a panel of experts from Hospice of
Michigan, including Dottie Deremo,
president and CEO; Dr. John Fin-n,
executive medical director; Bobbie
Blitz, Jewish outreach liaison; Rabbi
E.B. "Bunny" Freedman, spiritual care
counselor; Karen Tessler, community
member and caregiver
The program is open to the public at
no charge. A dessert buffet will follow

Dr. Jay R. Shayevitz of Oak Park
has been named by Hospice of
Michigan to be medical director for
the pediatric team in Southeastern
Michigan. Shayevitz is director of
pediatric perioperative care and pedi-
atric care services at Providence
Hospital, Southfield, as well as med-
ical director of the Providence
Children's Unity.

The Michael Golds Memorial
Conference Fund at Oakland
Community College will host the
Michael Golds Lecture Friday, April 6.
The conference will be 8:30 a.m.-
4:15 p.m. at the Orchard Ridge
Campus, Farmington Hills. For infor-

Di. Steffan Taub of Bloomfield
Hills has been appointed by Detroit
Mayor Dennis Archer to the advisory
council of the Southeastern Michigan
HIV/AIDS Council.

Speech, Language and Sensory
Disorders Inc. of West Bloomfield has
received the Michigan Speech-Language-
Hearing Association's Clinical service
Award for 2001. Nancy R. Kaufman is
