ner was a lot like looking for a wife," said Fischer.
"You date, hold hands, and then if you are not suit-
ed, you break-up."
In the course of duplicating courtship rituals,
Fischer considered several potential partners, but all
had different philosophies. At one point, Fischer
was about to give up his search — and perhaps even
his dream.
Fischer had dealt with Kersh as the sales manager
for a manufacturer whose line he carried. Fischer
said Kersh knew he was looking for a partner, but
he never would have thought of asking Kersh, who
grew up in Trenton, to chuck his job and return to
Michigan to open a retail store. When both found
themselves at the huge Consumer Electronics Show
in Las Vegas four years ago, they talked and Fischer
knew his search was over.
Kersh, 46, now lives in Commerce.
These days, Fischer practices his profession part-
time about 10 hours a week. He has just moved his
practice to Farmington Hills, and if Ensemble con-
tinues to grow, he said he could see himself retiring
later this year.
His wife, Dr. Terri Feldman, sold her
Southfield dental practice of 21 years last
December so she could have more time to raise
the couple's two children, daughter Maren, 12,
and son Evan, 9. A classically trained musician,
she has a bachelor's degree in music from the
University of Michigan.
Steven Fischer is the son of Al and the late
Beverly Fischer. He graduated from North
Farmington High School and attended Eastern
Michigan University for four years.
He was still majoring in science and medicine
when he enrolled at the University of Minnesota,
where he switched to psychology. ❑
