JVS' "Detroit's Work Place" division
works with area employers and train-

applicants for a wide variety of jobs,
such as basic and advanced technolo-

Jvs' Silver believes there are many
avenues a job seeker can explore to
land the perfect job. Not surprisingly,
she strongly recommends the 'Net.
"The Internet is just like using a news-
paper, only you can research a compa-
ny at the same time."
However, Silver adds that network-
ing and cold-calling are the r'vo most
effective methods of findina a job. She
notes that "80 percent of job

Author of Irrational Exuberance to Speak on April 20
Robert J. Shiller, Professor of Economics at Yale University, will present the annual
Levin Lecture on April 20, sponsored by the Economics Department at Wayne State
University. Shiner's book, Irrational Exuberance (Princeton University Press, 2000)
was a New York Times Nonfiction Bestseller last year. The book is an analysis of the
stock market boom since 1982 and a caution that a stock market that is overvalued by
historical standards in inherently precarious. Among Shiller's recommendations is an
urgent plea to immediately end what he argues are perilous schemes to privatize social
security in favor of plans to reform it. He also argues that private pension plans that
encourage many people to put their entire retirement funds in the stock market should
be modified. Shiller will speak on, "Risk, Invention, and the Future." The lecture,
which is open to the public, will be held from 3:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Alumni
Lounge adjacent to the McGregor Memorial Conference Center on the Wayne State
University campus. The Levin Lecture is given each year in honor of Samuel Levin, the
first Chairman of the Economic Department. Please RSVP by April 13, (313) 577-3347.
