,

is hard for any woman to resist a table covered in

semi-precious jewelry. Imagine strands of coral,
tanzanite, turquoise, aquamarine, jade, peridot
and garnet, all beckoning from the comfort of your
living room sofa.
When Jill Sloan of Huntington Woods decided to
host a jewelry party to showcase her friend Cindy
Ross's jewelry designs, she visualized her big, square
coffee table as the perfect
display surface. The con-
cept worked beautifully. As
guests moved around the
table, they helped them-
selves to the dazzling array,
giddily trying on necklaces
and bracelets.
Ross, of Southfield, calls
her jewelry collection Faith
Designs. And why not?
Faith is her middle name.
She started stringing beads
and gemstones about a year
ago for family and friends.
Soon they encouraged her
to take them to The Health
of It, the studio where she
works as a Pilates instructor.
The response was better
than she anticipated.
"I loved her designs so
much, I took a variety of
pieces down to Florida with
me and sold them at a meet-
ing," says Rosmarie Gilman.
Ross individualizes her
jewelry with unusual and
antique findings. A vintage
1940s pin, for example,
graces a gemstone necklace
A carnelian pin, dating from
the early 1900s, centers
another unusual piece. Ross
also likes to mix unexpect-
ed colors and stones in
unique combinations — cit-
rine and garnet or turquoise
and amethyst.
The designer's recom-
mendation to accessorize
your new spring wardrobe?
"I love turquoise for spring
and summer," says Ross.
"It's bright and versatile."
