Woman's Issue

The Jewish Women's Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit will host a free
educational forum exploring "Women
and Perfectionism."
This full-morning forum supported
by the Temple Beth- El Sisterhood,
will take a multidisciplinary look at a
pressing and common issue for
women, 9 a.m.-noon Thursday, April
26, at Temple Beth El.
Brenda Rosenberg will discuss how
she personally put perfectionism into
perspective.
Dr. Roberta Toll will discuss cul-
tural and psychological aspects of per-
fectionism.
Dr. Debra Hollander will offer a
historical perspective of the changes in
medicine from the tribal to the pre-
sent.
Dr. Jill Syme will discuss the mind,
body and spirit connection.
The Jewish Women's Foundation
of Metropolitan Detroit seeks to
expand and improve opportunities
and choices in all aspects of Jewish
women's and girls' lives through
strategic and effective grant making.
Margot Halperin is the Jewish
Women's Foundation chair; Beverly
Liss is associate chair; Brenda
Rosenberg is education chair.
The seminar is open to the public
with advance registration by April 19.

Jewish Holocaust Survivors May Be Entitled
To Compensation From A New Fund

ndividuals who performed slave or forced labor under the Nazi regime may be
1 eligible for payment from the Foundation "Remembrance, Responsibility and the
Future." In accordance with the German legislation, eligibility for "slave labor" and
"forced labor" is as follows:

• Slave Labor — work performed by force in a concentration
camp (as defined in the Gelman Indemnification Law) or a ghetto
or another place of confinement under comparable conditions of
hardship.

• Forced Labor — work performed by force (other than "Slave
Labor") in the territory of the German Reich or in a German-
occupied area, and outside the territory of Austria, under conditions
resembling imprisonment or extremely harsh living conditions; or
work performed by force under a program implementing the
National Socialist policy of "extermination through work"
(Vernichtung durch Arbeit) outside the territory of Austria.

The Claims Conference is administering this program for the benefit of Jewish
Holocaust survivors in this country. Heirs of laborers who died on or after February 16,
1999 may be eligible for this fund.

The Michigan Chapter of FRUA
(Families for Russian and Ukrainian
Adoption) will have a parent network-
ing meeting noon-3 p.m. Saturday,
April 7, at Providence Park in Novi.
The topic is "Questions and
Answers: A Discussion with
Experienced Parents." The meeting
will provide an opportunity for poten-
tial adoptive parents to hear about
Eastern European adoption and to ask
questions of families who have already
adopted.
