B'nai B'rith Great Lakes Region, as well as national athletic chairman for B'nai B'rith International, was given an award March 18 in appreciation for his service. Melton became a B'nai B'rith member 29 years ago and formed a softball team. It led to local B'nai B'rith leagues in softball, volleyball and basketball, which he continues to super- vise. Melton created "Family Bagel Day" March 18 during league basketball games at Walled Lake Central High School as a way of thanking the players for supporting B'nai B'rith. Wheelchair All-American Daniel Ellman of Bloomfield Hills was named to the Academic All-American team at the National Junior Wheelchair Basketball Tournament March 16-18 in Stillwater, Okla. Ellman, a senior at Bloomfield Hills Andover High School, was named to the academic team for the second con- secutive year.
