Funds Research At
Bar-Ilan

Eli A. Scherr, treasurer of the
Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan
University, has established the
Eli A. Scherr
Scientific
Research
Fund.
The fund
will support
research at
Bar-Ilan
University in
Ramat Gan,
Israel through
direct support Eli Scherr
of graduate
students, post-doctorate students
or support of a visiting scientist.
It is Scherr's second at Bar-Ilan;
he previously created the Eli A.
Scherr Library Endowment
Fund, whose annual income has
been used for library text and
journal acquisitions.
Scherr is a member of the
university's Presidential
FoUnders Society. Locally, he has
been on the board since 1995
and on the executive committee
since 1977. He has been instru-
mental in the university's
Detroit Planned Giving cam-
paign; in the past two years, he
served as the Detroit Friends'
playbill chair.
Scherr is a past president of
the Detroit local Jewish National
Fund and a board member and
since 1999 a vice president of
the Jewish Association for
Residential Care.
He is a board member at
Technion Israel Institute of
Technology in Haifa. He has
established endowments in all of
these organizations.
Locally, he has been active,
either through committee work
or through establishment of an
endowment, with the Anti-
Defamation League, Yad Ezra,
the Jewish Vocational Service,
Yeshiva Gedolah and on the
COJES subcommittee of
Federation.
