These are the eyes of a newly divorced
mother, who wants to give her young
son with special needs a day school
education and instill a love for
Israel in her teenage daughter.

additional
critical needs

Making day schools affordable for every
Jewish family will require increased com-
munity support for the six local day
schools.

Increased dollars would enable the Agency
for Jewish Education to provide more edu-
cational resources for children with special
needs through its Opening the Doors
Partnership Program.

111 As the Joint Distribution Committee reaches
out to 1.5 million Jews across the former
Soviet Union, additional funds will be
needed to rebuild institutions that
inspire Jewish life.

If resources were available,
Fresh Air Society would
hire additional staff to add

camping program.

Federation's Annual Campaign

we can "raise Jews" and ensure the future of

Jewish life here and overseas. We can provide

creative and meaningful experiences in which

everyone will be able to participate.

■ Each year, with Federation support, hundreds of our
young people take part in Israel experiences that
expose them to life in the Jewish state and to other
young Jews from around the world.

Through Michigan's six Hillel Foundations, 12,000
Jewish college students have the opportunity to
engage in outreach programs, Jewish experiences
and leadership development activities.

■ This year, more than 1,900 children received

scholarships to congregation-affiliated
schools, thanks to a special allocation
from Federation's Annual Campaign.

• The Joint Distribution Committee has
helped tens of thousands of Jews in the
former Soviet Union reconnect to their
heritage by training Jewish community
workers and volunteers, creating Jewish
community centers, kindergartens and
libraries and engaging college students in
regular Jewish experiences.
