shops," Adiv says. "The performances
coincide with reading month, the 31st
anniversary of Earth Day and the
change of seasons, which can be
included as a backdrop to the story."
Students will be invited to interact
with actors, musicians and writers, who
will share their artistic experiences. The
play and the workshops are planned as
a 2 1/2-hour field trip for students in
second through sixth grades.
During the run of the play, there will
be a young people's art exhibit coordi-
nated by Brandon Rubin, an Eastern
Michigan University student planning
to enter a master's program in educa-
tion at the University of Michigan,
where he earned his bachelor's degree.
Rubin, community arts coordinator for
the production, became involved
through his friendship with Adiv.
"Everything about the program feels
good," says Rubin, who has lined up
young artists from four schools and
two after-school programs in the the-
ater neighborhood.
Rubin also is leading a "Sound
Painting" workshop, which guides par-
ticipants into a creative improvisation-
al experience.
"Uncle feb's Farm has secular con-
tent, but it certainly is a reflection of
my upbringing," says Adiv, a graduate
of the Hebrew Day School of Ann
Arbor who had his bar mitzvah at
Congregation Beth Israel. "I've been
working with community leaders
throughout Detroit to make sure this
project is acceptable.
"We're doing classroom performanc-
es for inner-city schools and only
charging $100 for up to 35 kids.
That's a financial loser/spiritual gain
for me, and I think of it as the purist
form of tzedakah."
Uncle Jeb's Farm will be per-
formed 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 29; 10:30 a.m.
Friday, March 30; 2 and 7:30
p.m. Saturday, March 31; and 2

workshops and a student art dis-
play will be at the Furniture
Factory Theatre, 4126 Third St.,
in Detroit. $5-$10. For more
