Dr. Rockaway grew up in Detroit, earned his Bachelor's degree at
Wayne State. University and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University
of Michigan. For the past thirty years he has been a member of the
Department of Jewish History at Tel Aviv University in Israel.

As a continuation of the Temple's Detroit Jewish Perspectives/Detroit 300
programming, Dr. Rockaway's lectures will focus on late 19th century and
early 20th century Jewish Detroit. He is the author of several books on the
subject of Detroit Jewish history including. "The Jews of Detroit: From the
Beginning, 1762-1914" and "But He Was Good To His Mother: The Lives

and Crimes of Jewish Gangsters."
