the wheel," says Glaser, who hopes to
collaborate with Beat'achon on a song
of his, "Shabbos," done to a doo-wop
beat on his first album.
"There are no Jewish record compa-
nies. There are Jewish distributors, but
primarily they just warehouse stuff,
they don't market it," says Glaser, who
claims to be one of three or four pro-
ducers in the country "who can do
Jewish music with care."
He has recorded eight albums of his
own compositions, published four col-
lections of lyrics and poetry, two sheet
music songbooks of his Jewish music
and a new choral book, Kol
Haneshama ("Voice of the Soul").
From his home in L.A., Glaser, a
graduate of the University of Colorado
with a degree in business and music,
produces the annual American Jewish
Music Song Festival, a prestigious
songwriting competition. In 1995 he
was appointed music coordinator for
the department of continuing educa-
tion at the University of Judaism.
In his recording studio, Glaser
Musicworks, he scores for film, televi-
sion and radio and produces albums
for other recording artists. A recent
undertaking was an album/theatrical
concert package of his own, Kol
Bamidbar/A Musical Journey through
the Five Books of Moses. Released in
1999, the studio soundtrack album
features 13 songs tracing Jewish histo-
ry through the stories of Torah.
Glaser, who's been singing, compos-
ing and tickling the ivories since the age
of 7, lives in the Pico-Robertson neigh-

borhood of L.A. with his wife, Shira,
and children, Max, Jesse and Sarah.
The musician plays 50 cities a year
in the United States and Israel.
While he usually performs with a
seven-piece band, Glaser's Detroit gig
will be solo. From his hundreds of
songs, Glaser "picks and chooses what
messages I want to get across."
At every performance, though, he
sends out not-so-subtle messages:
"about Jewish unity, about the holiness
of Israel, an undivided Jerusalem. .
"I talk about the yearnings of the soul
and how they are as real to us as the
cereal in front of us in the morning, a
part of our life that we can tap into." ❑
