Unity Center in Bloomfield Hills, are
scheduled to speak for 30 minutes
each on the basics of Judaism and
Islam, followed by a question and
answer period.
"I hope that both Jews and
Palestinians, in addition to Kosovars
and Albanians and Serbs, and whatev-
er minorities exist whose ancestors or
relatives are in struggle in other parts
of the world, recognize that it's inap-
propriate to bring any of that to
school," Rabbi Sleutelberg said. "The
school has to be a safe place, to be a
place where those divisive issues are
not addressed." ❑

Community forums are slated for
March 13 and 27 at 7 p.m. at
Andover High School, 4200
Andover Road, Bloomfield Hills.
Registration is required; call

Young Israel
of West Bloomfield
to sell building.

SHELLI LIEBMAN DORFMAN
Stqff

"For Sale" sign in the front
yard of Young Israel of West
Bloomfield should not be
misconstrued as the closing
of the synagogue, says David Kruger,
Young Israel treasurer.
"The congregation is not dissolv-
ing," Kruger said. While declining to
comment on where members will
meet after the sale, he added: "There
will be services and there will be a
Young Israel presence in West
Bloomfield in the future."
Until the building is sold, member-
led services will continue in the 1,700-
square-foot converted house that has
been home to Young Israel since early
1997. The building, about 30 years
old, sits on two acres along Maple,
west of Farmington Road. Jonathan
Brateman, president of Jonathan
Brateman Properties Inc. in Novi, real
estate broker for the building, said the
sale price is $425,000.
For eight years before buying the
former house, the 12-year-old congre-
gation met in member homes, office
buildings and a storefront, all in the
same general area. ❑
