Shopping at Ricki's is an experience. Glass

bowls overflow Nvith bracelets, inviting customers to

dig in and discover just the combination of color and

stones that tickles their fancy.

Her workshop, actually a countertop in the galley

kitchen. brims with beads and string. fittings and jewelers'

tools. The pantry is stocked, not \vith cereal boxes. but

with plastic bins filled with beads. Strings of beads hang

from the cabinet pulls.

"The kitchen counter has the best light." says

Nederlander. "I have to stand over my work to get the

right perspective. Counter height is perfect."

Nederlander travels the world to find unusual

beads and gemstones. She's picked up inter-

esting pieces in Africa and Egypt. and

scours shows in Tucson for antique silver

and turquoise.

"You know, I have customers who have lots

of diamonds," she says, but they say these

bracelets are more fun."
