met with a welcoming riot of whimsy. Brightly

painted ceramic bowls and vases line shelves: color-

ful art fills the walls: life-size, lifelike sculptures perch

00 ledges and hover beside armchairs: ruby red lips (actually a

sofa) dominate the living room.

It's a happy-go-lucky space that mirrors the personality of the

jewelry artist who lives here. Nederlander's style, spirited and

boisterous, meshes perfectly with her attitude. She's pas-

sionate about many things: people, theater, travel, art .

and. of course, beads.

For the past year, Nederlander has fash-

ioned bracelets from amethyst, fresh-

water pearls. turquoise, aventurine,

jade and other semi-precious

stones. The deceptively simple

design of the bracelets belies the

amount of time and creativity it takes

to make them.

"I've sold over 300 bracelets, strictly by word of

mouth. - says Nederlander, somewhat incredulously. "The girls at
