If you're Jewish,
it could be Gaucher
Disease.

Author Explores
Henry Ford, Jews

.

Gaucher (pronounced "Go-Shay")
Disease is the most common genetic
disease affecting Jews of Eastern and
Central European descent. One out of
every ten carries the Gaucher gene —
it is far more prevalent than Tay-Sachs.

In celebration of the 20th anniversary
of the Rabbi Leo M. Franklin Archives
of Temple Beth El, the National Book
Foundation's executive director will be
guest speaker at a
luncheon at noon
Wednesday,
March 7.
Neil Baldwin
will speak on his
soon-to-be pub-
lished book Henry

Ford and the Jews:
Remarks on a Work
in Progress. His
research for the
book, which con- Neil Baldwin
centrates on the
response of Jewish
communities to Ford's attitude toward
the Jews, led Baldwin to the Franklin
Archives.
In addition to having written
biographies of William Carlos
Williams, Man Ray and Thomas
Edison, Baldwin is the author of
Legends of the Plumed Serpent;
Biography of a Mexican God. The book
explores the 3,000-year history, sym-
bolism and iconography of
Quetzalcoatl in MesoAmerican and
Mexican life, literature and culture.
Since 1989, he has been executive
director of the National Book
Foundation, sponsor of the National
Book Awards.
Cost of the luncheon is $18. For
reservations or information, call Holly
Teasdle: (248) 851-1100.
