10 of the 11 at Mario's of Troy are
$13.95, $14.50 and $14.95 ... In
Detroit, they are $16 and $17 ...
Unlike Mario's of Detroit, fettuccine
Alfredo, $14.95, is cooked tableside.
On the fish side in Troy ... 12-14
ounce broiled whitefish, breaded frog
legs, and broiled orange roughy Mario
are all $15.95 ... Frog legs roadhouse
is $16.50, English Dover sole, $21.95,
shrimp Bordelaise, $17.95
On Thursday evenings, the Troy
locale has a 14-ounce prime rib com-
plete dinner, 4-10 p.m., for $13.95 ...
and on Tuesday evenings, 4-10 p.m. a
1 1/4-pound lobster, with redskin
potatoes and fresh corn, is $1.0.95.
The homemade soups, like the deli-
cious minestrone, onion and very light
chicken broth with spinach are $5.50
each in Detroit ... In Troy, minestrone
and onion are $3.50, and chicken
with spinach is $4.
The seven chicken dishes that sell
for $18 and $19 dollars on Second,
range from $14.95 to $16.95 at the
Mario's of Troy.
General Manager Doug Deschaine
is a good one ... personable, gracious
and very knowledgeable ... He began
12 years ago as a waiter for Vince and
his father, Frank Passalacqua, at Carl's
Chop House on Grand River in
Detroit ... Two years later, a waiter at
Mario's on Second for eight years ...
and now top banana at Mario's of
Troy.
Also in Troy is Executive Chef Eric
Alderton, who held the same post
three years at the original Mario's
before coming to the new location ...
That he knows the Mario's way of
cooking is without question.
From the Detroit Mario's, now in
Troy, are waitpersons Jennifer
Buchanan, five years; Christine Yunk,
five years; and Doko Prenkocevic, two
years.
It is important to note that those
steaks at Mario's of Troy are with the
exact same marinating process for
which it gained much note on Second
Avenue. ... soaked in garlic oil.
Even the liquor drinks are cheaper
... and wine, too ... Certainly a lot of
food for the money ... the dinners
coming with soup, cold house salad
that has that "certain something" taste
difference, antipasto, roasted Anna
potatoes and pasta ... The pasta entrees
with everything but pasta side, of
course.
This is no "Johnny-Come-Lately"
venture ... Vince had visions of a sec-
ond location after going into Mario's
in 1994 ... Two years after, he was
already looking for another site.
