VIT

bile most of his friends were freezing, Yonah Pollack, 11,
enjoyed a sun-drenched Disney dream vacation in
Orlando, Fla.
The trip was Yonah's prize for winning the local
"Race Against Drugs," a free miniature car race promotion held in the
Oak Park Kmart parking lot last summer.
He and 129 other youngsters from across the country won an all-
expenses-paid, three-day trip for three to Disney World, courtesy of
Kmart Corp.
"At first, I didn't believe it. I was really excited," said Yonah, a sixth-
grader at Yeshivat Akiva in Southfield and the son of Dr. Leonard and
Susan Pollack of Oak Park.
The whole family went on the adventure, including brothers
Yehuda Chaim, 7; Akiva Levi, 5; and Yedidyah, 2.
All the national winners arrived Jan. 17. Along with tickets to
Disney's Magic Kingdom and MGM Studios, they were given Kmart
T-shirts, sweatshirts, a backpack stuffed with goodies, NASCAR model
racing cars, disposable cameras and $300 in "Mickey Mouse Money."
"Every detail was thought out," said
Yonah's mother Susan. "It was very well-
organized."
Yonah most enjoyed the Space Mountain
rollercoaster in the Magic Kingdom and the
Star Tours flight simulator at MGM
Studios.
Before the families left, Kmart held
another car race with prizes of $10,000,
57,500, and $5,000 in college scholarship
money for the winners.
This time around the track, Yonah came
in seventh. He didn't really feel bad about
not winning, his mother explained. He
understood he will go to college anyway,
but that the kids who won might not other-
wise have that opportunity.
The Pollacks spent Shabbat with grandparents in Orlando and, after
Havdalah, attended a closing banquet for all participants and their
families.
The winners were announced, then each child was called up to
receive a trophy — and a $500 savings bond.
"They really made every kid feel like a winner," said Susan.
