Federations Main Event
Hosts Pulitzer Winner

Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative
reporter and author Bob Woodward will
be the featured speaker at the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's
"Main Event," 6:30 p.m. Wednesday,
March 14, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
Woodward, assistant managing edi-
tor of the Washington Post, has been a
newspaper reporter
and editor for more
than 30 years. He won
the Pulitzer in 1973
for his and reporter
Carl Bernstein's inves-
tigation of the
Watergate
scandal.

He has authored or
co-authored eight national nonfiction
bestsellers. They include four titles on
the presidency and the White House,
including All the President's Men (1974)
and Shadow (1999); a book about the
Supreme Court, The Brethren (1979); a
book about the Hollywood drug cul-
ture, Wired (1984); a book about the
CIA, Veil (1987); and a book about the
Pentagon, The Commanders (1991).
His latest, Maestro: Alan Greenspan's

Fed and the American Economic Boom
(2000), is a biography of the Federal
Reserve chairman.
Woodward has two daughters, Tali
and Diana, and lives in Washington,
D.C., with his wife, Elsa Walsh, a
writer for the New Yorker.
Admission to the Main Event is $36
and a minimum individual pledge of
$500 to Federation's 2001 Annual
Campaign. For those age 35 or younger,
a pledge of $250 is required. Cocktails
and hot hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Campaign Passes
Record Amounts

The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit closes its 2000 annual campaign
with record numbers. The goal, $30.5
million, was surpassed at a final count
of $30,613,218 from 16,000 donors.
Campaign co-chairs were Peter
Alter and Nancy Grand; Women's
Campaign chair was Paula Glazier;
Young Adult Division Campaign chair
was Josh Opperer.
More than 2000 members of the
Detroit Jewish community gave for the
first time — an increase of more than
250 donors from last year.
