Dan and Betty Kahn Building Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Jewish Community Campus Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, a native of Detroit, is the Rabbi-in-Residence at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City, where he teaches Jewish spirituality and mysticism and mentors rabbinic students. He is regarded as one of the most creative Jewish writers in America, focusing on spiritual renewal with wisdom and humor. Prior to his present position, he served for 28 years as the rabbi of Congregation Beth El in Sudbury, Mass. He originated the concept of synagogue havurot, led his congregants to publish their own prayerbook and has conducted over 75 kalla weekends for personal religious growth. He has also been a commentator on NPR's All Things Considered. His 10 books, translated into five languages, include: The Way into Jewish Mystical Tradition, The Book of Miracles, Eyes Remade for Wonder and others.
