Sephardim To
Dedicate Torah

The Sephardic Community of
Greater Detroit, in celebration of
the dedication of their new Torah,
will sponsor a Shabbaton weekend
Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17 and
18, at the synagogue, 5544 Drake
Road, West Bloomfield.
The weekend will begin with
services 9 a.m. on Saturday. A
luncheon will follow. Classes and
study groups will be held
throughout the afternoon. Mincha
will be at 5 p.m. followed by
seuda shilishit, class Arvit and
Havdathh. At 8 p.m., there will be
a melava malka and refreshments.
On Sunday, services will be at
9 a.m. Classes and refreshments
will follow. At 2 p.m., the
Sephardic Community will dedi-
cate the new Torah. The occasion
will begin with the completion of
the Torah by Rabbi Avraham
Cohen, followed by a reception.
Guest rabbis will be Rabbi
Solomon Maimon, rabbi emeritus
of the Sephardic Bickur Cholim
of Seattle; Rabbi Michael Cohen,
member of the Seattle Kollel and
teacher at Northwest Yeshiva
High School; Rabbi Cohen,
teacher, Yeshiva Beth Yehudah;
Rabbi Yigal Tsaidi, headmaster,
Yeshivat Akiva; and Rabbi Sasson
Natan, principal, Sol and Tillie
Hasson Sephardic Hebrew Day
School, Chicago.
There is no charge for the
events. Reservations are needed
for the luncheon on Saturday. To
reserve or for information, call
