Hillel Day School

To Our Friends in the Jewish Community,

Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit endorsed the adoption of a Long-Range Plan (LRP) in February 1999. This
document has become the blueprint by which the school guides itself from where we are to where we envision being
in the future. As a result of the LRP, a tremendous amount of positive change has taken place over the past two years.
We take pride in building upon our excellence.

ANNOUNCING
HILLEL DAY SCHOOL IN THE NEW MILLENIUM

•

Developed and implemented a nationally acclaimed Graduated Tuition Scale

•

Opened our Office of Admissions to oversee the admissions process and welcome Hillel families

•

Enhanced our kindergarten program incorporating renewed and revitalized curricula

•

Maintained our standards of excellence in State of Michigan math, science and reading examinations

•

Created a Mission Statement which reflects our commitments to excellence in education and Jewish values

•

Appointed a full-time Director of Special Needs to focus on accelerated and remedial learning programs

Hired leading Jewish educators as heads of our Judaic Studies programs in the Upper and Lower Schools

•

Expanded our team sports program, competitive with Southeastern Lower Michigan Independent Schools

•

Named Co-Directors of Technology in both Judaic and general studies charged with overseeing computer
and curriculum integration, coordination and teacher training

•

Endowed and updated Holocaust studies program

•

Implemented Derekh Eretz, a code of student behavior that sets expectations and standards based on Jewish
teachings about respect for ourselves and others

•

Organized student life and enrichment programs under the new Dean of Student Affairs

•

Approved plans for facility update and growth

•

Endowed sports, performing arts and technology curricula

•

Appointed an Independent Schools Association of Central States (ISACS) Steering Committee for accreditation

Hired Director of Community Learning to oversee, coordinate, inform and enliven Hillel's relationships with the
community in addition to expanding experiential educational and spiritual opportunities

•

Launched and endowed 'Hillel Learns' adult learning project

•

Designed framework for staff development and systems of accountability, from administrators to tenured teachers

•
