ing, Jan. 14, about 60 people, old and
young, showed up at the synagogue
for parallel learning sessions on the
values of kindness and on doing
mitzvot.
Then, the messy work began.
In assembly line fashion, each bag
was filled with sandwiches, fruit, car-
rots, granola bars, boxed drinks, candy
and other snacks, said Naomi Pinchuk
of Southfield, B'nai Moshe's social
action chair.
Along with peanut butter, the sand-
wich squad prepared and delivered
tuna, egg salad and cheese sandwiches.
On Monday, B'nai Moshe members
delivered and served 600 lunches at
Central United Methodist Church.

Celebrate Summer will be the theme
of the Jewish Community Center
camp open house and party 1-4 p.m.
Sunday, Feb. 11, at the JCC in West
Bloomfield.
Balloons, clowns, games and
prizes will highlight the celebration.
The raffle grand prize will be one
week of camp free as chosen by the
camper. There are other prizes.
Parents who register before March
2 will be entitled to savings on fees.
Admission to the party is free and
the public is invited. The open house
is sponsored and produced by
Entertainment Inc.

Tu B'Shevat

Congregation B'nai Moshe will hold
a Tu b'Shevat family seder 10:30
a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the syna-
gogue. They will use a Haggadah
developed by Cantor Earl G. Berris.
Included in the seder will be a
story geared for pre-schoolers.
Following the seder, there will be a
"planting" project for the children.
The program is coordinated by
Susan Sinai, family education pro-
grammer. For information, call the

There is a nominal donation.

along with their sons, Jacob and

"It's a wonderful feeling of commu-
nity, not only within our synagogue
but to the community at large," said
Git Feldman, former chair of the
school's education committee. "I think
this is an extremely important part of
the children's education."
Jacob, 12, who will become bar
mitzvah at B'nai Moshe in November,
said preparing the lunch bags was fun.
For his bar mitzvah community ser-
vice project, he will once again work
at feeding the needy — as a volunteer
at Yad Ezra, the Oak Park-based
kosher food pantry. El

Lubavitcher Rebbe
Commemorated

This year marks 50 years since the late
Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem
Schneerson assumed leadership of the
worldwide Lubavitch movements, fol-
lowing the demise of his father-in-law
Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneerson. Jews
all over the world will mark the
anniversary
with special
events.

commemorate
the jubilee

The Russian-speaking community is
invited to attend a gathering (a far-
brengen) for discussion, Chasidic
melodies and stories led by Cantor
Berele Zaltzman from the former
Soviet Union. The event will be 8:30
p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Bais
Chabad Torah Center, 5595 West
Maple Road, West Bloomfield. No
reservations are necessary.
On Sunday, Feb. 11, Cantor
Zaltzman will appear in concert at
Yeshivat Akiva, 21100 W. 12 Mile
Road, Southfield. Tickets can be pur-
chased at the door; there is a special
senior citizen discount.
