Rabbi Kushner will deliver the SAJE-sponsored second annual Shiffman Family lecture at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Jewish Rabbi Kushner Community Center in West Bloomfield. His topic: "The Silent Alef: What Really Happened at Mt. Sinai." For more than 25 years, the former Detroiter has used wisdom and humor to promote spiritual renewal. He is the author of several books on spiritual awareness and Jewish mysti- cism. He is the first rabbi in residence at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati. Beginning Feb. 27 and running through March 29, more than 40 adult Jewish education courses will be offered through SAJE at both Jewish Community Center locations. Among the courses taught by local rabbis, cantors, educators scholars and com- munity leaders are: Jewish poetry, Jewish cooking, music, prayers, women and Judaism, Israel, Torah, children, ethics, Jewish mysticism, Jewish humor and spirituality. New this year is an online course, offsite classes and programs for young adults and young families. Those who register for two or more SAJE courses at the Kushner lecture will receive a free, autographed book. Individuals who become a "friend of SAJE" by making a donation of $136 or more will receive an autographed book and unlimited classes. SAJE chairs are Doris Blechman and Arthur M. Horwitz.
