Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township was the site on Sunday, Jan. 28, for the annual Tzedakah Experience and Penny Harvest. Chaired by Cookie Gonik, Beth Margolin and Roz Blanck, the annual event teaches area students about charitable giving. Fifth-graders at area Jewish schools collected more than $8,000 for this year's event, which will be donated to agencies supported by the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. In the eight years of the Tzedakah Experience, the stu- dents have raised $50,000. Sponsors of this year's event included Bank One Michigan, the Jewish Federation, the Agency for Jewish Education, the Jewish News, the Jewish Educators Council and Temple Beth El.
