tice and peace and will tell how peace-
making is a central call of all religious
faiths,".Father Reinhart says.

Religious Persecution

"If any religion knows about religious per-
secution, it's the Jews," says Williamson,
who is Jewish. "Religious persecution has
been at the heart of our history as we have
suffered at various times at the hand of
religious persecutors."
Attending the program for the first
time, she sees the gathering of many
religious groups as the beginning of a
solution to interfaith conflict. "When
there is unity among the great religions
of the world, it helps us not only
understand one another's histories but
helps heal the problems through recon-
ciliation." She also feels that, "The goal
of every religion is to seek to make a
world in which religious persecution no
longer exists." Williamson stresses the
significance of members of different
religions knowing about one another.
"Prejudice is born of ignorance," she
says. "What always impresses is the
commonality not the differences."
The program, co-sponsored by the
Detroit area American Jewish
Committee, will be hosted by Father
Edward Mullins, rector of Christ
Church Cranbrook and his staff.
While religious groups around the
globe have been invited to participate
in the event, the Rwanda Hope
Society has invited Father Reinhart to
Vancouver to lead a World Sabbath
celebration in early February.
Father Reinhart authored the inter-
religious prayers to be read at the serv-
ice "to enable interfaith groups to pray
together as equals," he says.
"We are living in a time when a par-
allel phenomenon occurs," Williamson
says. "People are going back to their
own religious roots, which is a good
thing, but are also simultaneously dig-
ging for the underlying one-ness that
connects all religions and all people.
There are many flowers in God's gar-
den. But only one garden." 0
