ou've endured Michigan winters
for years. But now, you have the
opportunity, the time and money
to get away from a long
Michigan winter.
Where do you want to go? Many people
are still traveling to southern Florida, as
they have for the last several decades. The
explosion of high-rise and condominium
developments continues unabated, and for
some the question is not where they are
going to go, but for how long.
Are they ready to commit to a winter in
Florida, or do they prefer to come and go,
enjoying a week or two at a time?
Suzie and Harold Leach of Farmington
Hills are travelers, not content to plant their
feet any one place. "Harold plans all of the
trips, and I follow," says Suzie. She has been
following Harold for almost 30 years, start-
ing with a wonderful 5V2-week stay in
London in 1973, where Harold did an
externship from Wayne State University's
medical school.
They went on a joint-50th birthday cele-
bration trip to Israel a few years ago.

Dream trips or
sunny destinations
fill the coming months
for many Michiganians.

A total novice traveler when she met
Harold, Suzie has learned over the years to
pack light, in a small suitcase with wheels
and a handle. And she always packs an
umbrella and a lightweight raincoat.
"Who cares who sees you wearing the
same thing?" she asks. "You're there to take
in the sights_ and the beauty, and to enjoy
yourself" She also has learned to not take
her good jewelry. "I do not feel I need it,
and I do not want to lose it. I dress down."
Suzie warns fellow travelers not to be too
impulsive on trips, and not to splurge when
bringing things back. "I try to bring back a
little something. I like to look for wonderful
