Vanessa "belong to me for such a
short period in my life. Before I know

Private Time: Every summer, the
children attend Camp Ramah in
Canada which means some
downtime. But Susie actually miss-
es "the hubbub. When they go to
camp, it's lonely."
During the rest of the year, she
makes time for workouts, plus run-
ning and tennis and bike riding.
She even manages to practice
piano at odd hours.
Sometimes she dates, too, but
the very subject elicits a groan.
Friends try to fix her up all the
time, and "I hate the rigmarole of
dating," she says. "Mostly,. I laugh
about it. I've had some horrible
dates and some great ones. I
know that someone truly special
will capture my heart."
And while divorced and blend-
ed families are becoming more
common in the Jewish community,
Susie says she still hears com-
ments like, "Why are you going?"
when she signed up for Adat
Shalom's family camp. She
explained: "I don't single myself
out as being different."
Hopes for the Future: Susie
1 dreams that her children will always
know who they are and where they
came from. I hope that they will
always have pride in who they are,
and will never have to say 'I don't
know— when asked about any aspect
of their Jewish background.
She hopes, too, that they will have
the "sense of family" she knew and
loved growing up.
"It would be a true shame if they
couldn't have those 'moments when
they sit around the table and tell slo-
e ries and laugh on Friday night."
