MONEY FUND INVESTORS:
husband and wife Elissa and Richard
Berg. "We will pick four stories that
talk about either a very important
Jewish personality or some impor-
tant moment in Jewish history," says
Elissa, director of education and
youth at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
She says Richard, who is a com-
munity storyteller, will perform the
stories followed by a group discus-
sion. "We will then talk about the
story itself and how, from the story,
we can really learn about the culture
and the spirit of the Jewish people."
Most of the more than 100 indi-
viduals who work on SAJE are vol-
unteers, including course instructors
who donate their time, Blechman
says.
The second annual Shiffman
Family Lecture will feature Detroit
native Rabbi Lawrence Kushner at
SAJE's kickoff event at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the West
Bloomfield JCC. Rabbi Kushner is
an author and rabbi-in-residence at
Hebrew Union College-Jewish
Institute of Religion in New York
City. His talk, "The Silent Alef:
What Really Happened at Mt.
Sinai?" is cosponsored by Libby Mall
of Farmington Hills, Southfield-
based Jewish Family Service and
Federation's Community Outreach
and Education Department.
SAJE is sponsored by the JCC,
Agency for Jewish Education,
Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education and the Jewish News. It is
supported by a gift from Cis Maisel
Kellman of Birmingham.
"We hope SAJE will be an intro-
duction to new subjects for students
to become enthusiastic about, and
discover how rewarding Jewish study
is," Blechman says. "This is also a
really good way to meet new clergy
and educators in the community." ❑
