People flocked around the T-Bird
exhibit, with the new Thunderbird
available this summer. Another show-
stopper was the Batmobile, where
Ken Burns chatted with Skip and
Carol Roberts in the General Motors
exhibit area. The Pontiac Vibe GT
drew rave reviews from the crowd. It
is crossbred between an SUV and a
sedan. This concept car, complete
with a global positioning system and
DVD player, is set to arrive in dealer-
ships in 2002 or 2003.
Most of the formal attire was basic
black, but Jacquelyn Pierce looked
stunning in a green velvet skirt with a
sheer white blouse, while Shelley
Golden was glamorous in a black
sweater with a white fur collar.
Cameras and lights were every-
where, including the live program-
ming from our local WXYZ-TV to
the crew from the national program
Entertainment Tonight.
The afterglow parties were just as
exciting as the Charity Preview. The
WXYZ crowd threw a glittering bash
at Cobo Hall's Riverview Ballroom.
Marla Drutz, program director of
WXYZ, managed to parry after her
busy week of live programming.
