"It was nice, with the Maccabi Games, to incorporate my tennis with a Jewish community activity," Abramson said. "To win it, in that atmosphere, was a nice experience." Although Abramson's game is still evolving, her groundstrokes remain her strong point. "I usually try to win my matches by really working my groundstrokes (from the baseline) and working the point." Her backhand is her strongest weapon. She's also "trying to work on being more aggressive and trying to incorporate more of a net game, work on coming to the net and finishin g off a point with a volley." • Brown feels Abramson's serve and volley "have gotten a lot better, along with her mental toughness in gener- al." He'd like her to play with `a little more aggression and develop a bigger forehand, so she has a better weapon off that side." As a student of tennis, Brown says, Abramson is "unbelievable. She is one of my best students by far, as far as her work ethic. She's one of those stu- dents you really love to have." Off the court, Abramson puts as much effort into her schoolwork as she does her tennis. "I'm kind of a perfectionist. When I work on some- thing for school, I always make sure I do it right." Between playing tennis most week- end mornings and after school, she doesn't have much free time. She's done well enough in school to be accepted at both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, solely on the basis of her academic achievements. She says it's "most likely" that she'll attend U-M, and hopes to play on the tennis team, although she hasn't contacted the ten- nis coach yet. ❑ Two For II Two Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook- Kingswood seniors, Jamie Royal and Lindsay Tiemeyer, were among the All-State honorees at the Division II tennis tournament in November. Royal and her partner at No. 1 doubles had 13 victories this year and reached the state semi-finals. Tiemeyer played No. 1 singles, fin- ished with a 20-5 record and reached the state semi-finals.
