ewish Family Service clients
celebrated an extra special
Chanukah this year, thanks to
community members who
donated children's toys, clothing,
household items and more.
"JFS is really becoming a central
point for the community when people
want to reach out and give to those in
need," said Michelle Greenstein, JFS
volunteer program director, who
coordinated this year's holiday
donation drive.
Micki Grossman, JFS volunteer
chair, said, "Our volunteer depart-
ment has spearheaded this effort,
while enlisting the support of other
community organizations, like the
Jewish Federation, Yad Ezra and
Congregation Shir Tikvah, as well
as private-sector businesses."
Shir Tikvah, with its eighth
annual Light One Candle project,
provided gifts for 130 JFS clients,
from newborns to a 98-year-old.
Many of the clients are single par-
ents or older adults from the for-
mer Soviet Union.
Other Jewish organizations that
have donated gifts and their time
include Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit (conducted a
toy drive for client families),
Yeshivas Darchei Torah (students

came to wrap gifts for clients),
Hadassah Nurses Council, Jewish
Women's International-Galilee
Chapter, Congregation B'nai Moshe,
Temple Emanu-El kindergarten and
second-grade classes, and
Congregation Bet Chaverim.
JFS offices in Southfield and West
Bloomfield received gifts from 15 fam-
ilies who called requesting to "adopt"
