Bloomfield, the young-at-heart gener-

kick-boxing class, where fun choreog-
raphy drills designed for all levels are

ing and free weights: and Swingtime,
a dance class for beginners to inter-
mediate level.
All these clubs offer Stairmasters,
rowing machines, treadmills, elliptical
cross trainers, free weights and weight
Machines and a variety of bikes and
step machines. At the JCC health
clubs, certified senior fitness special-
ists can help with targeted workouts.
According to Andrea Bernstein of
West Bloomfield, former co-owner of
Fitnesse Exercise Company and a cer-
tified instructor at Powerhouse Gym
in West Bloomfield, "This is a time
and a place where a certified personal
trainer can help you start to reach
you fitness goals. It is beneficial to
learn how to use such equipment
properly to prevent injury" and pre-
pare for a lifetime of activity.

Jewish Centers

One will find a slew of special
instructional classes at both of the
Jewish Community Center health
clubs (JPM Building in Oak Park and
the Kahn Building in West
Bloomfield).
Wellness classes include fitness for
seniors, a whole body warm-up fol-
lowed by seated and/or standing exer-
cises; self-defense and Parkinson's
exercise classes; an arthritis aqua class;
and senior swim.
"Any JCC class slated for the
beginner mature adult is appropriate
for someone new to exercise, or for a
seasoned professional," says Marni
Stone, fitness program director at the
Kahn Building. Also recommended
by Stone is Reva's Class, taught by
Reva Usher, an exercise experience
with classical music; and Body
Awareness taught by Sylvia Zukin, a
gentle stretching and exercise class to
improve kinesthetic awareness.
