Conversion Focus Of UAHC Event

Guest speaker Kathryn Kahn is
UAHC associate national director of
outreach based in Manhattan. She
provides expertise to congregational
outreach programs across the U.S. and
Canada.
Kahn, a Jew-by-choice, has worked
with interfaith issues for 12 years. In
addition to counseling interfaith cou-
ples and their family members, she has

taught about the process and psychol-
ogy of conversion at Hebrew Union
College and to members of the
Central Conference of American
Rabbis (Reform).
"People who have converted to
Judaism, as well as non-Jewish spouses
and family members and individuals
who may be considering studying for
conversion, will all find this discussion
to be informative, provocative, and
welcoming," Kahn said. "Everyone is
welcome —Jewish or not, affiliated or
not.
During her visit to the Detroit area,
Kahn will lead a workshop for Reform
clergy and lay leaders, providing orien-
tation for "A Taste of Judaism," a pro-
gram she administers nationally, which
has served 30,000 people in 450 con-
gregations. "Taste" invites a closer rela-
tionship with Judaism for both Jews
and non-Jews alike, through a free,

sent "Getting the Relationship You
Want," a full-day workshop to teach
couples how their marriage holds
the key to happiness 9:30 a.m.-4:30
p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Torah
Center, 5595 Maple Road, West
Bloomfield.
The workshop will be led by
Rabbi Shmuel Stauber and Rivka
Zahler-Stauber, both certified image
relationship therapists trained in the
theory developed by Harville
Hendrix. The cost of the program is
$100 per couple with advance reser-
vations, $125 at the door. A conti-
nental breakfast and lunch are
included. Babysitting will be avail-
able by reservation only.
Rabbi Stauber also will speak at a
catered melava malka 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Torah
Center. The cost is $36 per couple;
$25 for participants in the Sunday
program.
