"The Performing Arts and the Vibrant Soul" brought together talented local women to entertain a group of 70 at Machon's Oak Park building. Following a dvar Torah (short Torah discourse) by Shulamis Rubinfeld, the new co-principal of the Sally Allan Alexander Beth Jacob School for Girls high school division, the audience was treated to a poetry reading by Lynne Shulamis Rubinfiela' Cohn Schreiber, a former staff writer for the Jewish News. Schreiber is the author of Driving Off the Horizon (IM Press, $7), a collection of free verse poems. Her reading included selections from her new work of poems based on the 19 blessings of the Shemonah Esrai (Amidah) prayer. Oak Park's Dobi Baum spoke about the importance of discover- ing and expressing God-given tal- ents. She presented a video clip of her moving performance as Helen Keller in the play, "The Miracle Worker." Adele Kozadayev, an Oak Park piano teacher and Kindermusik instructor, led a discussion about the connection between music and concepts of Kaballah.
