Chanukah Lights
At Beth Shalom
A new discussion group, Fertile Ground,
will meet starting 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.
19, at the Jewish Community Center in
Oak Park. Topics will include infertility
and parenthood issues from a Jewish per-
spective. Information on area services
and a bibliography will be available.

A "1001 Lights" Chanukah celebration
is planned for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec.
25, at Congregation Beth Shalom. The
synagogue's Shabbat and Holiday
Committee is sponsoring the event,
chaired by Deede Auster, Diane Sasson
and Michelle Sider.
The evening will begin with crafts,
songs, games and stories for children
from birth to eighth grade. Age-related
activities will take place in the school
wing and youth lounge.
At 7:15 p.m., families will join for a
congregational candle-lighting ceremo-
ny. Families are requested to bring their
own menorot and candles. Dessert and
games will follow
Admission is $5 per member fami-
ly/$7.50 for others. Paid reservations are

Yad Ezra Boosts
Chanukah Spirit
Yad Ezra will provide Chanukah pack-
ages for clients this year. For a donation
of $18, needy client families will receive
a Chanukah package that includes latices,
applesauce, sour cream, baked goods, a
Chanukah menorah, candles, chocolate
treats and a dreidel for the children.
Yad Ezra, is the only kosher food
pantry in Michigan. The state of
Michigan allows a 50 percent tax credit
for donations, subject to certain limita-
tions.
Workshops Planned
For Reading Volunteers
Literacy volunteers will learn the tools of
the trade 1:30-3:30 p.m. Monday, Dec.
18, at the Max M. Fisher Federation
Building in Bloomfield Township when
the Detroit Jewish Coalition for Literacy
presents two workshops.
Facilitators of the two workshops are
literacy professionals Linda Orbach-
Shear of Shear Inspiration and Merrill
Saidman of Burt Elementary School in
Waterford.

Marks Chanukah
A family Chanukah klezmer concert
starring Srun and Lisa will be held 4

Community Center's Jimmy Prentis

Driker Fund for Yiddish Culture.

New Associate
At Federation
The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit has named Faye Schreiber of
Oak Park an associate in the Planning
and Agency Relations Department.
Schreiber was the director of the
Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening
Program for Wayne County at the
Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute
in Detroit. Previously, she was the envi-
ronmental health specialist at Providence
Hospital in Southfield and managed the
original Jewish Association for
Residential Care home on Evergreen in
Detroit.
Schreiber received her master's degree
in community health services from
Wayne State University and completed
her bachelor's degree in Near Eastern
studies at WSU.
